💡 Innovator Highlights💡 

Arca secured $8m in funding and key partnerships to scale its technology at Western Australian mine sites. Heirloom and the United Airlines Ventures Sustainable Flight Fund entered into an agreement for the right to purchase up to 500k tons of CDR. Climeworks secured partnerships with TikTok and Two Drifters Distillery to remove over 6k tons of CO2. Boomitra announced that its Northern Mexico Grasslands Restoration Project has been registered by Verra. Isometric recently certified the Biochar Storage in Low Oxygen Burial Environments Module. Kita and Pixxel announced their partnership. Captura published an update on its Ocean Health & MRV Protocol. SeaO2 announced its partnership with Svasek Hydraulics. CEEZER and Celonis announced their partnership. Twelve secured $83m in Additional Series C and project funding. Altitude launched Ascent 1, a 50,000t CDR purchasing facility. Frontier announced a deal with Phlair. CarbonQuest raised $20m. 

⚖️ Policy Highlights ⚖️ 

Internationally, the meeting report of the Fifteenth meeting of the United Nations' Article 6.4 mechanism Supervisory Body was published. In Canada, the government launched a Request for Information (RFI) to engage the industry on procurement options for carbon dioxide removal services. The European Commission released a roadmap for its Clean Industrial Deal. Japan has new targets to cut GHG emissions by 60% by 2035 and 73% by 2040 from 2013 levels as part of its broader plan to hit carbon neutrality by 2050. At the state level, California has been active in carbon removals. The CDR Purchase Bill (SB 643) was recently introduced, the California Ocean Protection Council (OPC) hosted a meeting on Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal Considerations and Bloomberg reported on a California Senate measure (SB 285).

📌 XPRIZE published an article titled Findings from the Field - XPRIZE Carbon Removal. 

 

➡️ Watershed released an RFP for one megatonne of carbon removal: applications are due March 31. 

 

✨ Applications to Frontier are now open. They have two funding tracks for early-stage suppliers and large suppliers. 

 

🇪🇺 The European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change published a new report titled Scaling up carbon dioxide removals: Recommendations for navigating opportunities and risks in the EU.

 

💡Carbon Unbound published a report titled 2024 CDR Market Insights Report.

 

📈 Milkywire published an article titled Catalytic carbon removal purchasing: Milkywire’s strategy. 

 

🛣️ Microsoft published its Progress on the Road to 2030 post that explains why the company will invest more in long-term, higher-impact carbon removal projects.

 

📊 Gold Standard has announced the approval of three new digital Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (dMRV) pilot projects. 

 

🚙 The Wall Street Journal published an article titled The Road to Scaling Durable Carbon Removal Will Be Long and Expensive.  

 

⚖️ The World Wide Fund (WWF) published Carbon Dioxide Removal: Policy Recommendations.

 

🌏 BCG published an article titled Unlocking the Full Potential in Carbon Markets: Pathways to Growth and Sustainability in Asia.
